A Movember To Remember for Carey Price

Carey Price Erasing Doubts With Best November Yet

With all of the turmoil surrounding Carey Price’s performance heading into this 2010-11 campaign, it’s not that much of a stretch to suggest that most folks never thought Carey would be as good as he has been.

Yet they would be remiss to not acknowledge the absolutely incredible play of the young goaltender as he has truly stood out thanks to his play in the Canadiens goal. Furthermore, those who were skeptical about what Price’s play would have perhaps been better served by looking back on his numbers from November in his prior three seasons.

Although people are jumping on board the Price bandwagon, as Carey currently leads all goaltenders in All-Star votes, it would seem as though Price knew all along that he would get things right.

Here are Carey’s numbers from the last four November’s:

To make things even simpler so that you will not have to shuffle through all the statistics, here is the breakdown of Carey’s numbers from November to November:

November 2007:

  • GS – W – L – OT – GA – GAA – SV% – SA – SA/AVG. – SO
  • 6 – 4 – 2 – 0 – 18 – 2.97 – ,913 – 211 – 35.2/gm – 0

November 2008:

  • GS – W – L – OT – GA – GAA – SV% – SA – SA/AVG. – SO
  • 11 – 6 – 3- 2 – 29 – 2.59 – .916 – 349 – 32/gm – 1

November 2009:

  • GS – W – L – OT – GA – GAA – SV% – SA – SA/AVG. – SO
  • 11 – 5 – 4 – 2 – 28 – 2.54 – .913 – 358 – 32.5/gm – 0

November 2010:

  • GS – W – L – OT – GA – GAA – SV% – SA – SA/AVG. – SO
  • 12 – 8 – 4 – 0 – 19 – 1.58 – .949 – 392 – 32.6/gm – 3

As you can tell from the year-to-year differences, Price has only gotten better in November, yet he’s never played as well through the month of November as he did this year.

Perhaps it was the incredible Movember Mustache that Price sported ever so gallantly throughout the course of the month, or perhaps it was just his time to truly break through. Whatever the case may be, Carey hasn’t relented in his play since his hot start in October and it would finally appear that the Montreal Canadiens have, without a doubt, a true No. 1 goaltender in Carey Price.

Carey will earn another Molson Cup as the team’s number one star for the month and will likely get a serious look as the NHL’s player of the month. With numbers like the ones he has posted, the league would be foolish not to.

Finally, although it’s always nice to admire one’s own accomplishments, Price is clearly not done proving his point and with sights set on surpassing last season’s playoff run, it’s becoming clear that Price won’t be finished taking care of business until he gets a chance to play hockey in June.

Carey Price All-Time Stats: November

  • GS – W – L – OT – GA – GAA – SV% – SA – SA/AVG. – SO
  • 40 – 23 – 13 – 4 – 94 – 2.42 – .923 – 1310 – 32.6 – 4
