All Star Draft Projections: Team Foligno and Team Toews

With the captains and assistants of the NHL All Star Game announced on Wednesday, we know who the ‘GM’s’ of the teams will be. On January 23rd, Jonathan Toews and Nick Foligno will go back and forth drafting their individual All Star Team. There’s no such thing as a bad pick in this draft, with each player showcasing immense talent.

Team Foligno

Nick Foligno of the Columbus Blue Jackets will captain the hometown team with assistant captains, Drew Doughty and Patrick Kane. The team will be coached by Darryl Sutter of the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings.

Team Toews

Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks will captain the away team, accompanied by assistant captains, Ryan Getzlaf and Rick Nash. Peter Laviolette of the NHL point leading Nashville Predators will be the Head Coach.

The Draft:

The draft will consist of 36 players chosen over the course of 18 rounds. Team Foligno, as the home team, will assume the first overall selection.

1st Overall: Team Foligno selects G Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets. 

Bobrovsky holds a 15-12-2 record this year with a 2.88 GAA and a .914 SV%.

2nd Overall: Team Toews selects G Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Crawford has a 17-8-2 record with a 2.15 GAA and a .924 SV% this season.

3rd Overall: Team Foligno selects F Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars.

Seguin has 26 goals and 22 assists in 42 games this season, he leads the league in scoring.

4th Overall: Team Toews selects F Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Voracek has 17 goals and 35 assists in 44 games this year, he leads the league in points.

5th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Crosby has 12 goals and 35 assists in 39 games so far, he won the Art Ross last year.

6th Overall: Team Toews selects D Duncan Keith of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Keith has 6 goals and 20 assists in 42 games so far this year. He had the most votes among defence.

7th Overall: Team Foligno selects D Kevin Shattenkirk of the St.Louis Blues.

Shattenkirk has 7 goals and 30 assists in 43 games, leads all defensemen in points.

8th Overall: Team Toews selects F Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Giroux has 14 goals and 34 assists in 43 games, he’s 3rd overall in points this year.

9th Overall: Team Foligno selects G Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.

Price is 23-10-2 with a 2.19 GAA and a .927 SV% this year.

10th Overall: Team Toews selects D Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators.

Weber has 10 goals and 19 assists in 42 games, he is the favourite in the Hardest Shot competition.

11th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Malkin has 19 goals and 30 assists in 42 games, he’s currently 2nd in points in the league.

12th Overall: Team Toews selects F Vladimir Tarasenko of the St.Louis Blues.

Tarasenko has 24 goals and 22 assists in 43 games in just his 3rd career season.

13th Overall: Team Foligno selects D Mark Giordano of the Calgary Flames.

Giordano has 10 goals and 26 assists in 43 games, he’s 2nd in defensemen scoring.

14th Overall: Team Toews selects G Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers.

Luongo has a 17-8-7 record with a 2.32 GAA and a .924 SV% in his first season back in Florida.

15th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

Ovechkin has 22 goals and 15 assists in 43 games and is a reigning Rocket Richard winner.

16th Overall: Team Toews selects F Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Stamkos has 25 goals and 18 assists in 45 games and won the last All Star shootout competition.

17th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings.

Kopitar has 10 goals and 24 assists in 41 games with the reigning Cup Champs.

18th Overall: Team Toews selects D Brent Seabrook of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Seabrook has 7 goals and 15 assists in 43 games this year, he received the 2nd most votes as a defenceman.

19th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Ryan Johansen of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Johansen has 16 goals and 24 assists in 41 games in just his 4th career season.

20th Overall: Team Toews selects F Tyler Johnson of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Johnson has 17 goals and 29 assists in 43 games, in just his 2nd career season.

21st Overall: Team Foligno selects D Brent Burns of the San Jose Sharks.

Burns has 11 goals and 24 assists in 44 games this year, his first returning as a defenceman.

22nd Overall: Team Toews selects F John Tavares of the New York Islanders.

Tavares has 19 goals and 20 assists in 43 games and his Islanders are 1st in the East currently.

23rd Overall: Team Foligno selects D Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild.

Suter has 1 goal and 22 assists in 40 games this year, leading this league in TOI/game.

24th Overall: Team Toews selects D Erik Johnson of the Colorado Avalanche.

Johnson has 12 goals and 10 assists in 43 games, leading all defensemen in goals.

25th Overall: Team Foligno selects G Marc-Andre Fleury of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Fleury has a 22-7-4 record with a 2.16 GAA and a .926 SV%. He replaced Pekka Rinne, who’s injured.

26th Overall: Team Toews selects D Justin Faulk of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Faulk has 7 goals and 17 assists in 43 games in his 4th ever NHL season.

27th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kessel has 19 goals and 24 assists in 44 games. He was the last overall selection at the last draft.

28th Overall: Team Toews selects F Radim Vrbata of the Vancouver Canucks.

Vrbata has 16 goals and 13 assists in 38 games, it will be his first ever All Star Game.

29th Overall: Team Foligno selects D Dustin Byfuglien of the Winnipeg Jets.

Byfuglien has 11 goals and 17 assists in 44 games, this is his second All Star appearance.

30th Overall: Team Toews selects F Bobby Ryan of the Ottawa Senators.

Ryan has 12 goals and 18 assists in 39 games, it will be his first All Star Game.

31st Overall: Team Foligno selects F Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.

Bergeron has 10 goals and 21 assists in 43 games, it will be his first ever All Star appearance.

32nd Overall: Team Toews selects G Jaroslav Halak of the New York Islanders.

Halak has a 23-8-0 record with a 2.22 GAA and a .917 SV% this season.

33rd Overall: Team Foligno selects F Patrik Elias of the New Jersey Devils.

Elias has 6 goals and 13 assists in 35 games, it’s his 4th All Star Game.

34th Overall: Team Toews selects D Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Arizona Coyotes.

Ekman-Larsson has 11 goals and 9 assists in 42 games, he leads the league with 6 GWG.

35th Overall: Team Foligno selects F Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers.

Nugent-Hopkins has 11 goals and 14 assists in 42 games in his 4th career season.

36th Overall: Team Toews selects F Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabres.

Girgensons has 11 goals and 9 assists in 44 games. He had the most fan votes of any player.

  1. You made one mistake. Nobody drafts Girgensons. He is left in the locker room to watch the game on the monitor. Toews would rather go with a short bench.
