Blizzard Outside – Play Fantasy Hockey Inside

Fantasy hockey daily draft
Snow has you down? How about some green to make you feel better?

The weather outside is frightful! In the dead of winter, there is little better than making some money and hey DraftKings is just the place for you to have a shot at winning $5000. Yes that is $5000! Just think what you can do with that kind of money and all you have to do is simply place a comment below in the comments section. It is that easy. Here is what you need to know for the Saturday drawing.

Editor’s Note: To Enter you only need to add a comment below this post. Feel free to invite your Facebook friends to also comment, imagine how excited they would be if they won tomorrow’s prize! 1 name will be drawn from the list of commentors (below this article only) at 9am tomorrow (Sat. Feb 9). The winner will be announced on our Facebook Page. The winner will need to create a free account at DraftKings, if he doesn’t already have an account, and we will enter him in tomorrow night’s $25K single day fantasy draft.

We plan on taking one lucky winner who comments below this post and giving them a free entry ($109 value) to a guaranteed $25,000 payout and $5000 first place prize. The DraftKings daily “Light The Lamp” tournament is going to be a chance to play with the big fish so to speak. The game will be played Saturday night and one winner will be picked at random 9am Saturday morning. Could this really be any easier? That answer is emphatically no.

Obviously this is not the only contest going on of the NHL variety over at the site. However, it is the most prestigious one by far and away. Whether is is a $1 contest or a $109 contest, we want you to win the money you have shelled out and then some. That is the goal after all. No one wants to lose money but the fun involves playing in these contests and measuring up in a daily fantasy hockey format. Set your team and then let the fates allow so to speak. All in all today we go in a different direction as far as strategy.

Our strategy types have basically featured types of ways to play but today we will quickly look at some player profiles that appeal to us in a daily format. The fun part is some of the bargain values you can find in daily leagues that can help you place well. Placing well usually means winning some money which is, as always, what it is all about. Do you want to find a few daily fantasy bargains? Okay, let’s take a look.

Daily Fantasy Bargains In Net

Viktor Fasth
Now this is daily fantasy value. (Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports)

Viktor Fasth (Anaheim Ducks)  $3100 — This does depend on if he starts but Fasth just keeps winning. His price is so ridiculously attractive that he just has to be bought. When he starts, he does not give up more than two goals. That translates into a solid fantasy buy. Please  check around before submitting your daily roster as always. The bottom line is Fasth is four for four in the win department. Fasth was also spotlighted by Anatolly Metter in his “Top Five Backups To Watch For”. Early in the year we had pegged Viktor Fasth as a player who could potentially usurp Jonas Hiller if not this year then maybe next as a starter. The way it appears now is he looks almost like a 1B in Anaheim. Bruce Boudreau almost appears hesitant to start Hiller but he was the guy the past few seasons since Jean Sebastien-Giguere left town. Right now, he is definitely someone you must at least consider in daily leagues because when the incumbent goaltender is this inconsistent early (despite winning), the coach sees the writing on the wall. Fasth also comes off a 31 save shutout against Colorado. Again, all the numbers point to this being one of the best daily fantasy values of the season considering how the goalie scale works in these leagues.

Johan Hedberg (New Jersey Devils) $6000 — He is not as big of a bargain as Fasth but for the occasional spot start, Hedberg is almost a perfect find and will still save you a couple thousand dollars in cap space. By the way, he will start Sunday in Pittsburgh and with the way Martin Brodeur has played of late, that may not be a bad thing. Hedberg did play once a long time ago for the Penguins and with how well Brodeur’s start (5 GA) went against the Penguins, some has suggested “The Moose” get both starts but he will be in net Sunday. One figures New Jersey is going to have a better showing than last Saturday so even on Sunday, Hedberg is a nice spot start in daily leagues. Okay let’s do one more for the road.

Michael Neuvirth (Washington Capitals) $5400 — This is what we call our shot in the dark. The Washington Capitals have been horrendous all year with defensive breakdowns, goaltending issues, and lack of any consistent offense. However, the Florida Panthers seem to bring out the best in Washington. Disregard the Caps and their 2-8-1 record. Basically there are no numbers to go on from this season to suggest a favorable result on Saturday night. We are just going to be bluntly honest. They have to snap out of this season long malaise at some point right? They are not this bad of a team. Right? Maybe Florida will be the panacea for what ails them.

Please note that Braden Holtby is now expected to start on Saturday against Florida. Do adjust your daily rosters accordingly for Saturday Night.

As always our weekly DraftKings column will appear here on The Hockey Writers every Friday afternoon so keep checking back for more on the latest in daily fantasy hockey. Again, comments are encouraged as we want you to have a chance at that big $5,000 prize Saturday night and good luck in your daily leagues for this weekend. Thanks for reading.
