Don’t look now, Detroit.  There’s someone coming up close behind you in that cracked rear-view mirror that is your season: St. Louis.  Yes, I realize that this is really a battle for last place in the Central, but aside from the fact that it is satisfying to see us two points away from shoving both Detroit and Columbus down into the doldrums of the Western Conference, it’s a sign that the season’s in turn-around.

How is a shoot out win over the Kings a sign of this, dare you ask?  Take a glance at our record over the past 10 games: 6-3-1.  While that might not exactly be earth shattering (and that one shoot out loss should have been a win, really), when you look at the other teams in the division that are the Blues’ closest competition: the Blue Jackets are 2-5-3 in their last ten, and the Red Wings are 3-5-2.  If they’re making a push for the playoffs, they’re pushing in the wrong direction.  If they continue to slide, and the Blues continue to shove upwards, there could be some brightness in our future.

The lines in the game yesterday seemed to click.  Not quite sure how long they’re going to stick together, but Walter on the same line as Perron and Berglund was perfect.  It confused a lot of Blues fans, but honestly, when you think about it – Tkachuk’s there for the rebounds, and Berglund is there for the chance.  Berglund seemed to wake up and come out of his shell, and play less scared.  Oshie was all over the ice.  Boyes fulfilled Jon Hamm’s prophecy of finding the back of the net. Maybe that hat isn’t so full of lies after all (for an explanation, see any GDT on Game Time).

Next game is Monday night against Colorado, who seem to be coming back to earth of late with a 3-4-3 record in the last ten.  They haven’t been playing poorly, but they have been fairly flat recently.  It’s a good chance for the Blues to improve on their not-so-hot home record and give the Scottrade crowd something to cheer for.
