The Toronto Maple Leafs announced earlier on Wednesday evening that defenseman Mike Komisarek’s season is now over. The rugged blueliner, who came over to the Leafs as a free agent from Montreal during the off season, injured his shoulder and has not played since January 2nd’s game against the Calgary Flames. Brendan Witt has been placed on the Injured Reserve by the New York Islanders, allowing them to reactivate Sean Bergenheim into the line-up. That means Brendan will be joining Jeff Tambellini in the press-box to watch the Isles take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight.

Finally Some Good Injury News For The Pittsburgh Penguins

It’s gotten to the point where it seems strange to hear positive news on the Pittsburgh Penguins injury front.

On Saturday night Evgeni Malkin returned to the team and helped the Penguins defeat the Boston Bruins in a thrilling overtime game.

Then, last night, Sergei Gonchar and Max Talbot made their returns to the line-up as well. A 6-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators likely isn’t the way they planned their returns, but the fact that they were on the ice was good news for a Penguins team that definitely needs it.

With early injuries and a rough schedule to contend with, the Flyers got off to a somewhat sloppy start. With five straight wins in hand though, things are definitely looking up for the orange and black.
