The Coyotes finally got off the losing track and back on the winning side of things as they defeated the Dallas Stars 1-0 in Dallas.
Obviously this win is huge because it halts the 6 game skid the Coyotes have been on since the All Star Break but more than that the Coyotes beat a team who has been on fire.
Dallas, going into this game, had won 7 of their last 8 games and having not lost in regulation at home since the Coyotes had beaten them way back on December 10th. Personally I thought this game was going to be another loss for the Coyotes but they came through and won. Enver Lisin scored the only goal of the game.
More importantly, Ilya Bryzgalov stole a game for the Coyotes as he stopped all 33 shots he faced. Phoenix has been waiting for him to do so for most of the season and he did last night. He will have to continue to be stellar if the Coyotes want to climb out of the hole they are in now.
The climb will have to begin tonight as the Coyotes return home for a match up against the Vancouver Canucks, a team the Coyotes will certainly be battling with the rest of the way. Phoenix currently sits in 12th place while the Canucks are clinging onto the 8th spot in the West with only 3 points separating the two teams. However with the Vancouver having games in hand on Phoenix, these head to head match ups become that much more important.
Roberto Luongo will be getting the start for the Canucks. The last meeting with Luongo and the Canucks turned into a showcase by the Coyotes as they torched Luongo for 4 goals in his return from injury, a game they won 4-1. Phoenix will have to re-enact that offense if they want to stop the Canucks who are on a three game winning streak right now.
In other Coyotes news Kyle Turris has been sent down to San Antonio. I believe this is a good move. Turris has the skill to be in the NHL but his size has limited him to lesser minutes with players not of his caliber. In San Antonio he will be working with coach Greg Ireland who has had success in developing young players. The Coyotes will be hoping that he can do the same for Turris.
