Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals and Marian Hossa silenced the boos with a goal of his own as the Detroit Red Wings smothered Sidney Crosby and his Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 on Sunday. Ty Conklin made 25 saves for his sixth shutout of the season.
Pittsburgh blew three opportunities on the power-play in the first period and never showed much life after that. Sidney Crosby registered only one shot the entire game, and that didn’t come until late in the third period. Other than Detroit’s goals the only real excitement generated all afternoon was by the fans every time Marian Hossa touched the puck, and even that eventually ran its course.
Then again I imagine having the guy you’re booing get the last laugh by burying a backhand shot probably takes the enthusiasm out of the whole ordeal.
Detroit was without forward Johan Franzen, who is day-to-day with a bruised hand afer getting hit with a shot early on in Detroit’s 8-3 mauling of Edmonton on Saturday. X-rays didn’t show any fractures.
The Wings have now won their last four games and are on the road against Nashville on Tuesday.
