Dubie Dubie Do?

Well Islanders’ country just cannot get any good news to go its way lately. Starting goalie, Joey MacDonald, was forced out of last Tuesday’s game with a groin injury. It was announced that he will be out for at least 2-4 weeks, which in reality, means he could be out for 2 to 10 weeks. Also, the Islanders announced that Rick DiPietro will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

This announcement leaves the Islanders with their third string goalie, Yann Danis, in net and with fourth string goalie, Peter Mannino, to backup. It was likely that the Islanders were not going to roll this tandem over the course of the MacDonald injury. Greg Logan of Newsday was first in saying that the Islanders had gone out and were working on signing a contract with former backup goaltender, Wade Dubielewicz. Dubielewicz eventually reached an agreement with the team and said he was looking forward to return to his former club.

Here is where the story gets interesting. Due to a crazy CBA rule which is still standing today, Wade Dubielewicz needed to pass waivers before he could officially join the club. Of course, there are not many things that shock Islanders fans, as we are used to it by now. That being said, Dubie was claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Basically, if the Islanders had not signed Dubie, they would have been the first team in line to claim him off waivers as they have the worst record in the NHL right now.

The story gets better. Dubie was on Long Island and scheduled to back up Yann Danis in tonight’s matchup versus the New Jersey Devils. Now the Islanders might not have a backup for tonight’s game. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have a game in Binghamton and were on route to the game until they received a call from the Islanders who had to make the bus stop and pull over in order for someone to go and pick up Peter Mannino. Well at least it is never quiet around Islanders nation.
