Flyers Return 3 Top Prospects to Junior Clubs

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced that they are returning three 1st round draft picks to their respective junior teams.

Travis Konecny (24th overall, 2015), Ivan Provorov (7th overall, 2015) and Travis Sanheim (17th overall, 2014) have all been sent back, bringing the team’s training camp roster to 55 players.

Konecny impressed in two preseason games for Philly, scoring a point in each of the contests. He will return to the Ottawa 67s of the OHL, where he was the captain last year, scoring 29 goals and 39 assists in 60 games. He’s a high-end talent, but at 18 will benefit from at least another year of development before making the leap to the pro ranks.

Provorov, considered a candidate to be one of the best defensemen in the 2015 draft, heads back to a very strong Brandon Wheat Kings team in the WHL where he should see top minutes as the team’s likely number one defenseman. He put up 15 goals and 46 assists through 60 games for Brandon last year.

Sanheim, alternate captain of the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen, returns to a strong Hitmen team for his 19-year-old season, after putting up 15 goals and 50 assists last season.
