Flyers Trade Lecavalier, Schenn to Kings

The trade winds are a blowing as the Philadelphia Flyers have sent Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn to the Los Angles Kings.

Going back to the Flyers are a 2016 third-round draft pick and center Jordan Weal.

In a little more than two seasons with the Flyers, Lecavalier has put up just 58 points in 133 games. He’s also been in and out of the lineup as a healthy scratch. His dealing was a long time coming for the Flyers.

Schenn, on the other hand, was the primary piece that came back to the Flyers in the deal with Toronto that sent James Van Riemsdyk to the Maple Leafs. In three-plus seasons with Philadelphia, Schenn put up 42 points in 213 games, and averaged 18:16 in ice time.

Weal is a rookie with no points in 10 games with the Kings this season. He’s spent the last few seasons with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL where he put up 20 goals and 45-plus assists in each of the last two seasons.

The Flyers are retaining 50% of Lecavalier’s and Schenn’s salaries, which is $2.25 and $1.8 million, respectively. Schenn is in the final year of his contract while Lecavalier is planning on retiring at the end of this season, as confirmed by TSN’s Bob McKenzie.

It’s the first major trade to go down this year, which could mean more are on the way. Maybe one for a certain Ryan Johansen?
