Is Pierre Lacroix’s Return Temporary?

On May 24, 2006, Francois Giguere was named Executive VP and GM of the Colorado Avalanche.  Today Giguere was given his walking papers.  The Avs finished the campaign with a   32-45-5 record.  Club President, Pierre Lacroix called the season “unacceptable”.  Lacroix is again the current GM of the Avalanche as of today.

Pierre Lacroix will take over on what’s been reported as a “temporary basis”.  As many hockey fans know Lacroix was instrumental in turning the Avalanche into a well oiled machine in the late 1990s and early 2000s.  He was GM of the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche from 1994-2006.  During his time Colorado acquired the likes of Patrick Roy, Mike Keane, Claude Lemieux, Rob Blake, and Ray Bourque, among others.  Colorado won the Stanley Cup in 1995-1996 and 2000-2001 with Lacroix’s hand picked players.   In my opinion, Lacroix will take the challenge and attempt to turn around this once dominant organization yet again.

Lacroix will find a goaltender this summer. He scooped Patrick Roy in the franchise’s first season in Denver. Look for a major goaltender to land with the Avs this July.

I was born and raised in Northern NJ and moved to Denver, CO in February of 2002. I started playing organized hockey at age 6, learning to skate by pushing an orange traffic cone around the ice. I played Mites through Bantam for the NJ Colonials and 4 years of Varsity high school hockey. I still skate on Tuesday nights in Denver in a local men's league. I've always been a passionate hockey fan.
