Leafs D Mike Komisarek Gone For The Season

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced earlier on Wednesday evening that defenseman Mike Komisarek‘s season is now over. The rugged blueliner, who came over to the Leafs as a free agent from Montreal during the off season, injured his shoulder and has not played since January 2nd’s game against the Calgary Flames. Incidentally, Komisarek was named to the 2o1o US Olympic Hockey Team just the day before his final game. This injury means he will not be able to participate in the Olympics either.

Komisarek will require surgery on the shoulder, details of which have not been announced but which presumably will happen sooner than later.

“Our team doctors have recommended this after a determined effort to rehab the injury without surgery. Having this done immediately is the right thing to do for the Leafs. I am truly sorry that I will not be able to represent my country at the Olympics,” said Komisarek in an official teamĀ  press release .
