Lightning Goalie Mike Smith Has Post-Concussion Syndrome

Lightning Bruins Hockey

It was reported today that Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Mike Smith is suffering from post-concussion syndrome. Although he is suffering from this condition it is expected that he will be returning to the Lightning goal by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

Smith was the center piece in the trade that sent Brad Richards to the Dallas Star last season. He has complied a record of 17-28-9 as the Lightning’s starting goal-tender but has been out of the Tampa line up since January 30th against the  Philadelphia Flyers

With Mike Smith still out of the line up it is likely that rookie Mike McKenna will get the starts until Smith returns. McKenna has played well in the absence of Smith with a 1-0-1 record and a goal allowed average of 1.57.
