Looking at Selanne; 40 is the New 30
The Anaheim Ducks made a smart move when re-signing right winger Teemu Selanne for the 2010-2011 season. Selanne is a phenomenal hockey player. He digs down low, makes passes, and is quick on his feet. Selanne reads the ice well and his timing makes him a rare type of player. He has the ability to find open spots and get the puck in the net.
The young guns of Anaheim can greatly benefit from having someone like Selanne in the locker room and on the ice. Selanne brings his experience, knowledge, and skill to the team. Currently Selanne has five points and five assists in ten games, a great start. He also keeps a level head and defends his teammates and himself when necessary.
Selanne is a major part of Anaheim’s dynamic as a team. He is a reliable player on the ice, always staying calm and looking for the next play. Being an alternate captain Selanne is there to lead and set an example for his team. With the multiple injuries the Ducks are facing, players are being called up to step in. These players should look to Selanne’s demeanor during the game, and follow in his footsteps. A young team has a lot to learn and can benefit from this NHL veteran.
At the ripe young age of 40, Selanne tops the charts in age for Anaheim. This past game against Dallas he topped another chart. Teemu Selanne scored his 611th goal in the NHL. By doing this he is now 15th for all time scoring in the NHL, passing up the great Bobby Hull.
Continue following Teemu Selanne this season, and you will see some great hockey. Anaheim faces New Jersey tonight at the Honda Center and then the San Jose Sharks Saturday night at HP Pavillion.
