The AHL Toronto Marlies fall victim to a four-goal second period to eventually lose 5-2 to the Rochester Americans in the first game of a home-and-home set with their cross-border rivals. This is the second time in as many games that the Maple Leafs AHL affiliate team has been scored upon four times in the second frame.

The Friday night tilt was the pro hockey debut for Leafs goaltending prospect Andrew Engelage, one of the most recent OHL graduates. Engelage endured fourteen shots before bowing out to former Calgary Flames first-rounder Adam Munro at the start of the third.

Goal scorers for the Amerks included defenseman Jason Garrison, Michal Repik, David Brine while shorthanded, and Jeff Taffe with a pair – placing Taffe as the team scoring leader with four goals.

chrishansonChristian Hanson, son of Slap Shot hero Dave Hanson, earned his first AHL goal of the season. Robert Slaney, previously of the QMJHL’s Screaming Eagles, registered his first professional career point with an assist.

The winning goaltender, Alexander Salak made 30 saves to improve his record to 2-0-0.

The Toronto Marlies next game is Saturday afternoon at the Ricoh Coliseum on the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition. Game time is 3:00pm. To order tickets visit http://www.torontomarlies.com/ or call 416-597-PUCK.
