New Jersey Devils All-Time Drafted Lineup: Left Wing

Some made a profound impact in New Jersey. Conversely, others flourished outside the Garden State. No matter where they prospered in the NHL, these players were all drafted by the New Jersey Devils. This list includes two goaltenders, six defencemen and 12 forwards.

For part three, we slide up to the left wing.

  • Left Wing:
  • Brendan Shanahan (1987, First Round, Pick 2 Overall) – A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Some stellar seasons for Shanahan for sure but perhaps known better for his exploits elsewhere, particularly his three Stanley Cup titles with the Detroit Red Wings. An eight-time All-Star, Shanahan potted 656 goals, 698 assists and 1,354 points for his career. Shanahan was twice a 50-goal scorer and six-times netted 40 markers or more in a season. In 184 playoff games, Shanahan recorded 154 points. Shanahan also won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy. His career book ended in New Jersey and he posted 94 goals in 315 games with the Devils.

  • Patrik Elias (1994, Second Round, Pick 51 Overall) – The most prolific and consistent scorer in Devils’ franchise history, is Patrik Elias. Elias helped the Devils win two Stanley Cup titles and is a three-time All-Star. In 1,155 contests with the Devils, Elias has 393 goals, 590 helpers and 983 points. Elias also has one 40-goal season and four years with 30-goals or more. In 162 playoff contests, Elias has 125 points.

  • Kirk Muller (1984, First Round, Pick 2 Overall) – A consolation prize for not scoring the first pick and Mario Lemieux, Muller had himself an All-Star career. A six-time All-Star to be precise. A Stanley Cup champion with Montreal, netting three game winners along the way, Muller put up three consecutive 30-plus goal seasons in New Jersey. With the Devils, Muller accumulated 520 points in 556 games. On his career, Muller scored 357 goals, adding 602 assists, for 959 points in 1,349 games.

  • Zach Parise (2003, First Round, Pick 17 Overall) – As Muller just missed out on the rise of the Devils’ title teams, Parise came in just as those players began to drift away. Parise was taken in the vaunted 2003 draft. In 502 games with the Devils, Parise pumped in 194 goals, chipped in 216 assists and garnered 410 points. Blessed with speed and never one to shy away from pulling the trigger, Parise potted 45 goals once for the Devils and over 30 markers in five of his seven seasons in New Jersey. Like Elias, Parise was a short-lived Captain for the Devils, helping lead them to a Stanley Cup Final in 2011-12, with a club leading eight playoff tallies. Parise has one All-Star appearance on his ledger and has since recorded an additional 47 goals with the Minnesota Wild.
