The New York Islanders joined the NHL in 1972 during the league’s attempt to keep a World Hockey Association (WHA) franchise off Long Island. The Islanders had near-immediate success, making the playoffs in their third season, which started a streak of 13 consecutive postseason appearances. During that streak, they won four straight Stanley Cups—1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983—and went to another Stanley Cup Final in 1984. The Islanders of the early 1980s remain one of the greatest dynasties in NHL history.

Islanders Need to Re-Sign Top Free Agent Before the Offseason

There haven’t been many bright spots with the New York Islanders this offseason – but that shouldn’t stop the organization from keeping what’s working. One of those is their analytics darling, who happens to be on an expiring contract – and that’s Mike Reilly. The Case For Reilly While he may not be on the same level as Noah Dobson, the defenseman has thrived this season in his role on the third pair. It’s when the game already felt out of hand when Anders Lee took the penalty of the game. Islanders’ Anders Lee: The Unluckiest Man in the NHL

There is no doubt New York Islanders captain Anders Lee has had an underwhelming 2023-24 season. The team has struggled to solidify itself in the playoff race, and Lee has been no help. He has spent the majority of the season on the top line with Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat, two dynamic offensive players. With that, you would expect Lee, who has a career-high of 40 goals in a single season, to have a great season. This season, he has not, at least in many aspects of the game. He has had opportunities, but the puck continuously has struggled…
