NHL All-Star Traded to Montreal

It’s not every day that an NHL All-Star gets traded for an AHL defenseman, but that’s exactly what happened on Friday afternoon.

According to multiple reports, the Arizona Coyotes have acquired defenseman Jarred Tinordi from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for All-Star forward John Scott and Stefan Elliot.

Also going to Arizona in the deal is Stefan Fournier.

In 11 games this season, Scott has recorded just one assist. Tinordi has played in just nine games total — three in the NHL, and six in the AHL. He has no points with the Canadiens, and two assists with the St. John’s Ice Caps. Elliot has scored six points (two goals, four assists) in 19 games with the Coyotes this season.

Though, according to Francois Gagnon, Elliot is being flipped to Nashville for defenseman Victor Bartley.

Obviously, the big name — both literally and figuratively — in this deal is Scott. For his career, Scott has five goals and six assists in 285 games. He was voted in by the fans as an All-Star participant in Nashville this year, finishing first among all players in votes.

The voting was obviously done as a joke by the fans, leading to a change in how the NHL will do All-Star voting going forward. However, Scott has welcomed the opportunity to play in the new three-on-three tournament.
