Founded and established by Ottawa real estate developer Bruce Firestone, the team is the second NHL franchise to use the Ottawa Senators name. The original Ottawa Senators, founded in 1883, had a famed history, winning 11 Stanley Cups, and played in the NHL from 1917 until 1934. On Dec. 6, 1990, after a two-year public campaign by Firestone, the NHL awarded a new franchise, which began play in the 1992–93 season. In total, the present-day Senators have reached the postseason 16 times, including a trip to the 2007 Stanley Cup Final, which they lost to the Anaheim Ducks.

Finally, speaking of 50-goal scorers, what is Sam Reinhart going to cost the Florida Panthers if they want to extend his contract? Guentzel…

Senators’ 5 Most Interesting Prospects

After trading away all their top draft picks for Alex DeBrincat and Jakub Chychrun and graduating most of their top prospects, the Ottawa Senators have been left with one of the worst farm systems in the NHL. Few players project to be more than a middle-six contributor if they make the NHL at all. With a core of Tim Stutzle, Jake Sanderson, and Brady Tkachuk, that’s less of a concern than it could be, but it’s still far from ideal, especially with how the 2023-24 season has gone. However, not all projections become reality. Jesper Bratt was too small to…
