Politically correct!

By Jon Gabrielle,  THW

Yesterday the NHL issued a statement regarding the use of foul language during post game press conferences.

Apparently, the league has heard enough from John Tortorella, whose offices are within ear-shot of the World’s Most Famous Arena.

Although the memo was sent league-wide to every organization, it didn’t stop TSN’s Darren Dreger from singling out the surly Ranger boss. He started his story by mentioning Tortorella’s passion and continued saying, “(his) passion gets the better of him every now and again and manifests into an occasional rant with the odd pfofanity dropped in to emphasize his point.”

This is a kinder and gentler NHL and Mr. Gary Bettman, the Commisioner, wears his suit well.

The memo reiterated that profanity is against NHL by-laws, is inappropriate and will be deemed a violation of the NHL Constitution, subject to both individual and Club fines.

In Brent Sutter’s post game address last night, after his team had just dropped a 3-2 decision to Columbus, he was right on the edge of using what some might term, “offensive,” when he dismissed himself abrubtly from the podium with a curt,”I’m done!”

I have no doubt that his mesasge will be received, and taken to heart by Tortorella, Sutter and any of the other passionate offenders around the league.

It’s a much nicer National League these days. Isn’t that why we watch?
