Scott Gordon’s System Catching On

Wow. I think that is all I can say. The Islanders have won their last 3 games and have 7 points in the last 4 games. We are talking about the same team who only had two wins in the month of October. The same team that only had two wins in the month of December. The same team who didn’t win a game in the New Year until January 21st. The same team who had a 10 point last place lead prior to the All-Star break. Well now that deficit has been cut to four points.

The Islanders are finally starting to show that maybe Scott Gordon’s go go go system can actually work in the NHL when played right. The Islanders haven’t lost a game since putting the lines of Comeau-Bailey-Okposo together. Okposo seems to have really found his game with 5 goals in his last 4 game played with 13 points in his last 15 GP.

The line of Comrie-Weight-Guerin was also installed over this period of time and each of them has scored one goal during these last 3 games. Frans Nielsen has 3 assists over this time period. The players seem to understand the system better. Gordon has been coaching them day in and day out to try to point out the mistakes they were making and they seem to be correcting them.

Tomorrow night they march into a game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. After seeing what I have seen from the Islanders team over the last three games, I have no reason to suspect that a loss is coming. The Islanders are starting to find themselves and the young players are starting to develop right in front of our eyes and what a beautiful thing it is to see.

I’ve loved Scott Gordon ever since Snow picked him. I haven’t though liked Garth Snow. I think he is the one that actually needs to go if the Isles want to be competitive in the next few years. Snow has made some terrible moves, and has failed to make moves that needed to be made. And I’m glad to see the Islanders start to win, even if they are a rival to my team :)

We can all look at the situation now and say that Garth Snow has made terrible moves, but can we really say that now? I don’t think we will truly be able to judge Garth Snow until we have the players develop from the moves he made. Only time will tell, however I agree with you on the fact that hiring Scott Gordon was a great move for this organization.
