Battle-weary Canadiens Stumble out of the Playoffs

The Habs were in dire straits late in Game 5 Thursday night, going into the third period trailing 3-1 in both the game and the series. Forget the fact that they entered the playoffs as the number 2 seed in the East, that they won of the Northeast Division, that they entered the playoffs with ...

Forget Vezina, Evgeni Nabokov Is Most Valuable Goalie

On the same day that Sergei Bobrovsky, Henrik Lundqvist, and Antti Niemi were announced as finalists for the 2012-13 Vezina Trophy, I’m presenting a new kind of goalie award, the Most Valuable Goaltender of the Year, to Evgeni Nabokov of the New York Islanders. This honor is based on a single statistically-driven question: Which starting ...

Character Carries Montreal Canadiens Past Senators

Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin likes players with character. Players that bring that something, that je ne sais quoi to a hockey game.

Once onboard, Bergevin quickly signed players like Brandon Prust, Francis Bouillon and Colby Armstrong. Plus, he re-signed Travis Moen.

And he discovered players already on the roster who have plenty of character too. Guys like Ryan White, Rene Bourque, Max Pacioretty and captain Brian Gionta. He also found two ripe, rookie players mature beyond their age and inexperience in Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher.

Lars Eller Hit a Hockey Play Gone Bad

Lars Eller goes down as Canadiens lose first game of opening round series against Ottawa Senators Hockey. It’s a rough sport. Things happen. Things happen at a fast pace. Very fast. Now fast-forward (or is it rewind?) to last night’s tilt in Montreal where the Habs faced off against the Ottawa Senators in Game 1 ...

The Prince of Wales Trophy: Who Wins It and How

The Eastern Conference portion of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin tonight, and the Pittsburgh Penguins are the top seed. Will they hold serve and win the Prince of Wales Trophy? Read on to find out if, and how, they do it. #1 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #8 New York Islanders Penguins won season series 4-1-0 ...

Montreal Canadiens: Stumbling Finish A Good Omen?

A lot of Habs Nation has been on edge of late. And rightly so. Coming in to tonight’s season ending tilt against the upstart Toronto Maple Leafs, the Canadiens are 4-6-0 in their last ten games. Now this isn’t completely atrocious, but it’s certainly not worthy of a playoff-bound team and definitely not up to par for a team that still has a chance to finish second in the Eastern Conference.
