Nashville Predators Wheeling and Dealing at Deadline

If you were Predators GM David Poile, you would have a sense of urgency too. The Predators were arguably the biggest buyers at the seemingly quiet NHL trade deadline today, bringing in forwards Paul Gaustad and Andrei Kostitsyn in two separate deals. Kostitsyn was acquired from Montreal in what was the first announced trade of ...

Habs and Preds Trade Has Benefits for Both Sides

by Jas Faulkner, contributing editor  “That’s the hard part of the business,” Predators GM David Poile said when asked about sending Nashville’s first home-grown player to Montreal in exchange for Hal Gill.  Poile continued that club on the other side of the table also played a part in his decision to send the young forward ...

Hockey is Alive and Well in the South

Who was it that said hockey could not survive in the South?  That person has obviously never been to Nashville, Tennessee during hockey season. I was lucky enough to see firsthand how much the NHL is thriving in the Music City this past Saturday when I saw the St. Louis Blues take on the Nashville ...

Nashville Predators Better Plan for the Realignment

The shocking realignment announced on Monday has put the Nashville Predators behind a very big rock.  I have not seen information on the real vote, but if the Predators voted for this alignment, they should have their intelligence checked.  The conference that Nashville will be in also has Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Dallas, St. Louis, Columbus ...

Rinne Gets His Money, But Did the Predators Doom Themselves?

Jim Neveau, Senior NHL Columnist With the third lowest salary cap commitment in the league, the Nashville Predators are a team that has certainly made a habit of living successfully on a frugal budget. What Does The Shea Weber Deal Mean For Nashville?

In the Coen Brothers’ 1987 film, “Raising Arizona”, an ex-convict named Hy is given marching orders by his wife to get some diapers for their newly stolen (by them) baby. While he is in the store, Hy has a lapse and goes from being a doting adoptive dad to his former identity as a petty thief. Pulling a pair of pantyhose over his head, he hitches up his trousers, musters up every last reserve of inner badass energy and walks up to the clerk where he demands all of the cash and a package of Huggies. There is a pause as the clerk eyes him coolly and then drawls, “Son, you got a panty on your head.”

This scene stands as an apt metaphor for Predators GM David Poile’s summer.
