Boston Bruins: On The Topic Of Chris Bourque

By Wayne Whittaker, Boston Bruins Correspondent Let’s discuss Chris Bourque for a moment, shall we? Despite the Boston Bruins 5-0-1 record heading into Thursday night’s matchup against their divisional rival, the Buffalo Sabres, a hilarious amount of vitriol has been directed towards the 27 year old 3rd-liner. A career AHLer, and second round draft pick of the ...

What Was The Best NHL Draft Year?

Over the last 30-plus years, the NHL Entry Draft has served as a stage for teams to select some of the best young players available to them. As of late, the 2003 NHL Entry Draft has been hailed for the depth and quality of players that it provided, but August 9, 1979 is still a ...

Vote Now: Gretzky, Lemieux……Then Who?

Many people believe Wayne Gretzky is the greatest player to ever live since he owns nearly every NHL scoring record. There are other fans out there who believe Mario Lemieux is the greatest player to ever play. Gretzky blows all the record books away to this day. He is the all-time leader in all three ...

Looking Ahead: Five Must-See Home Games for the Providence Bruins

The second week of October usually signals the beginning of the NHL season but instead, it’s the American Hockey League that has the spotlight. The NHL lockout has forced numerous players to find a new rink to skate in overseas while others have migrated down to the AHL.

While the Providence Bruins may not play stacked, lockout-saturated teams such as the Oklahoma City Barons or Toronto Marlies, there are plenty of key games where fans will get to witness NHL-talent on the AHL-level. Plus, it’s professional hockey, automatically giving the AHL an advantage over the NHL…for now. Here are some key P-Bruins home games for the 2012-13 season.

Pass The Time: Top 5 Avalanche Videos Embedded on Youtube

YouTube, as we know, is a haven for procrastination and silly cats. It’s also great for hockey. If you want to get through the Lockout (or at least the next couple days), have a look at these classic Avalanche videos, embedded below for your viewing pleasure! 5. 2003-04. ESPN: The Season When ESPN still cared about ...

Hockey’s Dynamic Voices: Gary Thorne

Gary Thorne, a great baritone voice that barely hid a New England background, for me and the millions that watched the NHL on ESPN in the 1990s, Thorne is synonymous with the era. Between 1992 and 2004 this former assistant district attorney and member of the Bar of the US Supreme Court called hockey for ...

Capitals acquire Center from Bruins

The Washington Capitals acquired center Zach Hamill from the Boston Bruins in exchange for left wing Chris Bourque. It was announced Saturday by Vice President and General Manager George McPhee. Hamill, a native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia was drafted 8th overall in the 1st round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft held at the ...

The All-40 Team

Much has been made of the play of Teemu Selanne and Nicklas Lidstrom the past two seasons as they approached, and passed, their 40th birthdays. They still rank among the best in the world, but are not alone in playing when most others are concentrating on their golf swing. Some are able to not only ...

“Because It’s The Cup” Commercials Miss The Mark

Two years ago, the NHL marketing team took sports commercials to a new level by introducing the “History Will Be Made” ad campaign. Combining some of hockey’s most famous moments with the iMovie “reverse” effect, the commercials highlighted everything that makes playoff hockey what it is. Last year, the History Will Be Made theme continued. ...

Erik Karlsson The Next Elite Defenseman

When the Ottawa Senators drafted Erik Karlsson 15th overall in the 2008 NHL entry draft they had high hopes for him as all first round picks are full of promise and potential. In less than four years those hopes are not only realized, but perhaps far exceeded!   GM Bryan Murray thought so highly of ...
