EASTERN CONFERENCE:
~ Jay Feaster has nothing but good things to say about Steve Yzerman and the new Tampa Bay Lightning. (Missing from the glowing article is the small tidbit of disclosure that Feaster is still being paid by the Lightning and has to be hoping for a spot within the new management ranks):
“Last Tuesday’s announcement put Vinik back on a winning streak. Yzerman is world class and he’s as great a person as he was a hockey player. He learned from one of the best organizations in professional sports, working under people such as Jimmy Devellano, Ken Holland, Jim Nill and Mike Ilitch. Yzerman brings instant credibility, a Rolodex of connections and contacts and he arrives in Tampa carrying hope on his shoulders.”
~ Tomas Kaberle trade rumors will likely continue from now up until draft day, but reports indicate Buffalo is in hot pursuit of the offensive defenseman for a quick fix on the powerplay:
With [Kaberle] at the point, Vanek will instantly score 10+ more goals than last season. Kaberle is a skilled power play quarter back, and a great offensive dman. He’ll get shots to the net. Vanek’s bread and butter on the power play (tipping shots) was in effect not an option for him this season due to the Sabres sub par power play.
