The Curious Case of Marc Savard
By Mike Miccoli, Boston Bruins correspondent
The Boston Bruins are in quite the precarious spot.
On one hand, it’s easy to say that the Bruins have had a successful offseason thus far. Boston’s biggest headache on ice, Dennis Wideman, was traded away along with the 15h overall pick to the Florida Panthers for Nathan Horton, an instant upgrade on offense, and Gregory Campbell. Then, the Bruins re-signed soon-to-be free agents, Johnny Boychuk and Mark Recchi, to contracts rewarding both for their stellar play during the 2009-10 season. Finally, the Taylor versus Tyler debate was settled once the Edmonton Oilers drafted Taylor Hall first, leaving the Bruins to select centerman Tyler Seguin second overall.
Now, it gets complicated.

Bruins vs Sabres Game 6 Live Blog: 4.26.10
6:30 pm: Four hours later…we now know that Marc Savard will not dress for tonight’s game since Boston is still waiting for medical clearance from his latest neuropsych test. Bummer for Bruins fans hopeful that the center made his debut in a critical game but really, best to sit Savard until he’s fully back at 100%. The Bruins and Sabres have taken the ice for warmups–on the ice for Buffalo, who else but Thomas Vanek?

Was extending Andrew Ference a mistake for the Bruins?
/ Boston Bruins, Uncategorized
By Mike Miccoli, Boston Bruins correspondent
Perplexed was I upon reading the news that the Boston Bruins had extended Andrew Ference’s contract for an additional three-years with a cap hit of $2.25 million per year, an $850,000 raise from his current $1.4 million salary.
And I know I’m not the only one.
Maybe it’s because I believed that Ference, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent come July 1, would be donning a different jersey once the 2010-11 season began. Or maybe it was because Ference is, at best, a bottom pair defenseman and let’s be honest, the B’s have too many skaters right now who carry that distinction. But really, I think it’s because I don’t quite understand how someone who hasn’t made a tangible impact on the team nor has yet to play more than 60 games in a season while wearing a spoked-B is eligible for a raise.
A little help here?

Bruins vs. Penguins Live Blog: 3.18.10
/ Boston Bruins, Uncategorized
Say what you will, but don’t say that this game isn’t one of the biggest of the year for the Boston Bruins.
For one, the Bruins are currently holding on to the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers only three points behind. Boston is coming off a seven-game road trip where the team went 3-3-1, keeping the status quo that has been present all season long. But it’s hard for one to forget the real reason why this game is receiving playoff-type hype and national attention. Think of it as a rematch of sorts.

Buyers, Sellers or Nothing
/ Boston Bruins, Uncategorized
By Mike Miccoli, Boston Bruins correspondent
So the Bruins lose a game or two, or seven. No big deal, right? Boston will pull the trigger on some deals at a deadline to bring a quality scorer that will better their chances of winning a Cup. Plus, with the Toronto Maple Leafs absolutely tanking at the moment, that first round pick is looking more and more like a number one overall with each passing game, a good thing since the swap involving said pick has been the most talked about trade since the 2005-06 season.
And then, this happens.
