The Hockey Spy’s 2009 Entry Draft Dark Horses

Christopher Ralph is a hockey writer with a focus on prospects and the entry draft, as well as the Leafs’ correspondent here at THW.

The following prospects did not make The Hockey Spy’s Top 60 ranking of this year’s crop of draft eligible prospects, so not all are true “dark horses” as we often associate with the phrase.  They are a round up of the obvious guys who could easily slip into the second round come draft day, the sleepers who are not so obvious, and simply some of my favorites who I think are underrated and have a good shot at rising their stock immensely in the not so distant future.

This document accompanies my Draft Preview article.

* An asterisk “*” denotes a player I think will be probably be drafted in the mid to late rounds, but I feel has 2nd or 3rd round level talent.  These would be who I really feel are Dark Horses.

I have not provided links to profiles for these players, nor expanded on them within the article.  If you wish to find out more on a specific player or players, feel free to comment below or email me at:   hockeyspy@gmail.com.

  1. I like the asterisk beside Alexander Avtsin’s name, and wouldn’t be unhappy if the Canucks took a shot at him in the second round if he’s still available. Great job as always, Chris!
