Born: Sherwood Park, Alberta
DOB: September 7, 1993
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 192 lbs
Position: Defense
Shoots: Left

NHL Draft Eligibility: 2011

One-Timer:

At 6’3, 192 lbs, Duncan Siemens is an intimidating blue liner in a league made famous for it’s rugged defensemen. A shutdown defenseman with offensive upside and a solid transition game, Siemens has been steadily rising in draft lists everywhere, cracking the top 10 of many.

What Siemens can boast over many shutdown defenders coming out of the Dub the past few years is his skating. A mobile defenseman with a big body, and a desire to make the big hit can have some scouts salivating at adding the top prospect.

While still questions about how effective he can be offensively at the next level, I’m sure a team will take a flyer on the Sherwood Park native in the Top 15.

Top Prospects Game: Was held pointless. Did have a fight with David Musil.

Statistics:

Scout’s Honor:

“He’s a strong, smooth skater with good composure and very poised under pressure. He’s got good size and isn’t afraid to use it.”

“Duncan isn’t overly offensive, but does play on the power play and moves the puck well,” he said. “He gets shots through and is solid defensively, 1-on-1. There are a good line of top offensive forwards in the WHL this year, but Duncan still should go near the top 10 in the draft.”

-B.J. MacDonald of Central Scouting (NHL.com)

—————————————————————-

“Hard-nosed competitor was strong in his own end and did a good job of clogging up shooting/passing lanes with an active stick.  Went looking for a fight with a little guy, but ended up on the short end when Musil stepped in.  Made smart reverses with the puck, but was forcing his point shots and had trouble turning the puck over in his own end.”
