Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Slapshot Jr. – Christian Hanson

So…do we call him – “Snapshot” ?!? Son of Dave Hanson, one-third of the infamous Hanson Brothers featured in the classic Slapshot movie, Christian Hanson has signed on with the blue and white. Darren Dreger, TSN, reported this morning Hanson had signed a two year entry level contract.

Described as a “sturdy” two-way centre, the 6’4″ and 225 lbs Notre Dame Fighting Irish forward scored 31 points in 35 games this season.

“We are excited to have Christian signed to a contract, and look forward to seeing him play for our organization,” said president and general manager Brian Burke in a media release. “He is a very intelligent hockey player who has good size and a solid scoring touch around the net.”

The big forward looks to be the prototype player that Burke covets. He is reported to have an offensive flair but is equally effective defensively. The word is he is great in dressing room as well and is considered a great teammate.

ESPN.com recently posted a video of the “Son of Slapshot”.

For a great review of Dave Hanson’s (with Ross Bernstein) book released last year visit Hockey Book Reviews. David J. Hanson played 10 seasons of professional hockey for the Detroit Red Wings andMinnesota North Stars of the NHL, and the New England Whalers,Minnesota Fighting Saints and Birmingham Bulls of the WHA. Joe Pelletier, in the book review, states:

“After reading this book I have come to the conclusion that the only thing more fun than the on-screen antics of the Hansons was their behind the scenes escapades. The practical jokes, often involving Paul Newman, are hilarious, especially the car crash and naked bus stories.”

The new Leaf prospect may, in fact, be in the lineup as soon as this weekend.
