Torrey Mitchell Gets Match Penalty for Slew Foot

Montreal Canadiens forward Torrey Mitchell was assessed a match penalty for slew-footing Boston Bruins summer acquisition forward Zac Rinaldo in Saturday’s 4-2 win over the Bruins.

In the young season’s second match penalty, Mitchell comes up behind an upright Rinaldo with a clear intention of taking him down.

The infraction could cost Mitchell, as match penalties an automatic suspension for the next game and he’s likely to receive a call from the Department of Player Safety on the play. Despite it being a clear slew foot that sees Mitchell going after Rinaldo with the intention of throwing him to the ice, the slew foot doesn’t always get that much attention from the DoPS.

Nonetheless, the penalty had Mitchell tossed during the third period of the Canadiens’ win. Watch the play below, courtesy of Stephanie Vail.

Mitchell was acquired by the Canadiens via trade from the Buffalo Sabres last year. He played 65 games between the two teams, contributing no goals and an assist to the Habs through 16 games.
