Video: Dustin Byfuglien Toes the Line on Gallagher Hit

Outside of Dustin Brown, there are few in the NHL who toe the line like Dustin Byfuglien does.

He’s taken borderline hits on players before and avoided suspensions on many of them (though certainly not all).

He’s found himself at the center of another controversial play that has many thinking that he should expect a call from the Department of Player Safety on Monday.

On Sunday night he came across on the ice on Montreal’s Brendan Gallagher and caught him up high with an elbow. Byfuglien was given a two-minute elbowing minor on the play.

It’s hard to tell from the below angle if the initial point of contact is Gallagher’s head or not, but Byfuglien definitely gets a piece of Gallagher up high and drives enough force through the top of Gallagher’s body to spin him off like a top after Byfuglien had already knocked the puck away.

It’s hard to tell from this angle whether or not there should be supplemental discipline. What’s your take?
