Great article! Deader gave us Kings fans a huge spark of enthusiasm and showed us a bright but narrow beam of light shining on the Cup after a very bleak 7 years or so. If only that team could have remained... I just wish we could solve this awful scourge of concussions in sports.

I lived in Denver from 97-01, and Deader was one of all my friends' favorite Avs players. Sakic was this ethereal God, Patrick was the rock star, Forsberg was the brooding genius, but Deader had the "common man" appeal. Guys like Keane were of the same mold, but Deadmarsh had a bit more...sex appeal, for lack of a better phrase. Like he was the one brother in the family of five boys from South Boston that always got the girls.

In any event, it's a shame how his career was cut short. Especially against the back drop of an Olympic year when the last of the "old guard" of USA hockey (dating back to the original WCOH) is about to pass on the torch, but it seems like there's this big chasm between them and the NKOTB. Deader - at only 34 years old - could have been the perfect bridge player had injuries not cut him down.

Thanks for a great article, and I hope to see Adam enjoy a long and frutiful life doing whatever it is that makes him happy.

Loved reading this, he was always a favorite of mine. And in my pantry is a jar of those Deadmarsh Deli Dills, signed by him and the Crow. They will never be eaten :)

I've often said that Joe Sakic was the only Av I ever had any respect for. My apologies to Adam Deadmarsh, a guy who played the game hard every night, and scored more big goals and made more big plays against the Wings than I care to remember--a habit he continued upon moving to the Kings. The hockey sky was a little darker when he left the NHL. It's good to know he will be back (even if it is with the still-hated Avs) and I wish him the best. Except against Detroit.

"Adam Deadmarsh didn't wear pads; pads wore Adam Deadmarsh."

If you're looking for a great video, here is a link to one of my favorites on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjQyV73dv_8

It's the "Stunner at Staples" video where "Deadmarch" caps the series.

Great read, man.
