Great news for Duck fans today as GM Bob Murray has re-signed Francois “Boom Boom” Beauchemin. The deal is a 3 year contract extension worth $10.5 million. The signing is significant because he was to be an Unrestricted Free Agent after this season, which would make him a top candidate to be traded at the deadline next month. With this extension it would almost certainly take him off the trade market. Beauchemin has been the best defenseman for the Ducks this season with his combination of physical play, as well as his help on offense. Although he is used mostly on the Ducks 2nd power-play unit he leads the Ducks defencemen in both goals and points with 6 goals, and 18 points. The Ducks have been playing really well over the last 7 games going 6-0-1. Beauchemin has played a key role during that stretch getting 2 goals, and 5 assists and a plus/minus of +10 in those 7 games.
Another reason that this is great news for Ducks fans is it looking less likely that the Ducks will be sellers at the trade deadline, but that may only be if the Ducks can keep up the fantastic play that they have been showing over the past 2 weeks.
