The Anaheim Ducks continue to be a tough challenger for their opposition. Much to the surprise of many critics, the Ducks are winning games and are currently sitting 3rd in the Pacific division and 6th in the Western conference. They have faced some injuries, dealt with a very rocky start to the season, and pushed through tough opponents to bring them to where they are now.
Various players have stepped up to make a serious impact for the team. The first, and most obvious, being Jonas Hiller. He has been talked about in high esteem this season. Hiller has been virtually standing on his head for his teammates, giving them the support in the net that they need in order to win some big games.
The 28 year old net minder has really stepped up his game this season for the Ducks. Game after game Hiller continues to face more shots than his opposition and with his goaltending capabilities and the Ducks scoring skills, they battle and continue to come out on top.
Hiller is a strong presence on the ice and doesn’t second guess his decisions. By doing so, he rightfully earned his place in this year’s NHL All-Star game. Hiller is one of three Ducks that will be participating in the festivities.
Big scorer Corey Perry will be there to represent the Anaheim Ducks with Hiller. He will be bringing his stick handling skills and his ability to score goals. Although both were selected, whether or not they will play alongside one another is still to be determined. The player chosen All-Star captains Eric Staal and Nicklas Lidstrom will be determining how the teams are divided.
The third player representing Anaheim is the rookie Cam Fowler. Fowler will be taking part in the rookie portion of the event. The young defenseman has been coming up big for his club. Not only is he handling the puck with poise and confidence, but he can score goals too.
Having a young guy like Fowler on the blue line playing the way he is gives the Ducks confidence in this season and seasons to come. If Anaheim stays on the positive track that they are currently headed on and continue to battle in games, they will have no problem making it to playoffs this year. Keeping consistent when coming back from the All-Star break will be key for the Ducks and their success.
