The 15,605 fans in attendance watched the Columbus Blue Jackets drop another game in their quest to return to the playoffs to the Los Angeles Kings, 4-2. And really, it was never that close until the final half of the 3rd period.
Recent acquisition Scottie Upshall didn’t mince words regarding the loss. “I thought we got into some penalty trouble (in the 2nd peiod),” he said. “The 1st period we had everyone in the game. We had scoring chances and we didn’t give them much. In the 2nd period, we got away from that. We got into some penalty trouble and that ‘s what, ultimately, gave them the upper edge.”
This was not a loss that could be pinned on one line or one player, they were all accountable. Said Matt Calvert, “I don’t think I brought my best effort in the first two periods. I took a stupid penalty (tripping) in the 2nd period. The penalties kind of killed our momentum. We fell short.”
