The Boston Bruins won a game to make this a best of three for the Stanley Cup. The Canucks still have home ice in that regard.
But the NHL should be embarrassed. Or maybe not, who knows any more with this league. A late hit that should have been a game suspension is 4 because its a 5-6 defenseman, but a slash on every play, slewfoots, punches to the back of the head, those are all allowed if you are an Original Six team. Henrik Sedin gets a penalty where Peverly was already falling, and he barely touched him with his stick. You get the feeling they want this to go 7?
They talked about taking all the Slapshot style antics out of this series. Instead, they let the Bruins run the game into the gutter.
Even with a game that they were looking just fine playing the game by skating and shooting, and winning that way, they resort to buffoonery.
Tim Thomas should be fined, suspended, something. Not for playing fantastic goal, as he did with the shutout tonight. But for his antics at the end of the game. You simply cannot throw a blocker punch there Timmy. Maybe in the Colonial Hockey League, or whatever of the lower leagues you toiled in.
This is the NHL. Come on now. Burrows would be happy to indulge you, if you so desire, but take the weapon off. Real tough and brave Timmy. The sad part is, the media will eat up whatever little comments he comes up with to sound tough.
For what it is worth, the Bruins can win the normal kind of game. They don’t need to do it. But they just can’t help themselves.
Fine then. Best of three, and let the best team win. I think the Bruins are scared to play with the skill of the Canucks though.
Here’s the thing. Roberto Luongo did not have a horrible game, but he let in 4 goals. Thomas got the shutout, and played like a punk. Marchand played like a punk and tried to close line a guy. Slewfooted a guy behind the net, and scored off it Tried to take off Ehrhoff’s head and got penalized, but it was late then.
Hey refs. Call the stupid stuff early. You gave the Bruins penalties late. Who cares? They were doing it all night. Be consistent.
Sorry, no clips again tonight, they were not up on the NHL website at this writing. Here\'s the link , they have plenty there.
I don’t know how to convey this without sounding like a whiny fan that just is mad. I honestly don’t think that is the case. But it is hard to argue that the Canucks got well and truly beaten tonight. I can live with that. The better team won. That is fine. But enough of this other stuff. In the last three minutes alone, the Bruins not only had to win the game, they had to play dirty. Maybe they think that because the power play for the Canucks is suddenly powerless right now, that it is no big deal.
Here’s the penalties called.
17:33BOS Brad Marchand served by Tyler Seguin : Roughing – 2 min 17:33VAN Keith Ballard : Roughing – 2 min 17:33BOS Brad Marchand : Holding – 2 min 17:33BOS Brad Marchand : Tripping – 2 min 17:33BOS Adam McQuaid : Misconduct (10 min)
All this because Marchand, for all his skill, cannot stop playing like a punk. He tried to close line Ehrhoff, and then, instead of standing up to noted pugilist Daniel Sedin, he instead goes low and submarines him for the tripping “clipping” call. Real brave rookie. Nice of McQuaid to try to sucker Ehrhoff instead of just standing toe to toe. Come on Adam. He is Ehrhoff, you have fought way more. You knew there was nothing going to happen there, and throw a punch at the head when a guy is not looking.
So brave. Just like skating the bench with the hand motions like you won a fight you turtled from. The Canucks should be seething from that, and the rest.
18:09VAN Alexandre Burrows : Cross checking – 2 min 18:09VAN Ryan Kesler : Roughing – 2 min 18:09VAN Ryan Kesler : Misconduct (10 min) – 0 min 18:09BOS Zdeno Chara : Roughing – 2 min 18:09BOS Zdeno Chara : Misconduct (10 min) – 0 min 18:09BOS Tim Thomas served by Shawn Thornton : Slashing – 2 min
Thomas should have gotten way more than that. The slash was caught, but you cannot throw a blocker punch Timmy. Its wrong. Its a weapon, and its a huge violation of the code. I have not seen that since I watched Slapshot for the umpteenth time. You talked real tough afterwards to there Timmy. You won, remember? Just stay in your net.
Its a great movie, But this is the Stanley Cup Finals. Come on now. The NHL should be embarrassed. The Bruins are good enough to play the game the way it is supposed to. Even if the power play being shut down has given them more courage to take penalties, their entire style is goonery as well.
Just play the game.
So now, best of three, and the Canucks have home ice. Unfortunately, it won’t mean anything if they cannot make the Bruins pay on the man advantage.
Until then folks, expect more of the Charlestown Chiefs, and less of the Boston Bruins in the Cup Finals.
