There’s a headline I never imagined writing. Former-Cap, Ben Clymer has found a home blogging for The Hockey News while he spends his first season playing for Dynamo Minsk who joined the KHL this year.
Clymer (Team Jagr), was the lone representative Dynamo Minsk, who is in the middle-of-the-pack standings wise. Dynamo Minsk used to feature two former Capitals with Bryan Muir on the blue line as well, but after playing 23 games for Dynamo Mn, Muir has moved on and is now a part of the Frankfurt Lions of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
The Capitals connections just keep coming as Clymer explains:
Of course, it also adds to the experience when you get in on the scoring and I was lucky enough to get one in the first period off a nice pass from my former teammate in Washington, Jakub Klepis, who now plays in Omsk. In hindsight, I wish I would have grabbed the puck; it would have been a great keepsake to have, but at the time I didn’t think of it and just kept playing.
Clymer gives no inclinations on his plans for next year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back to North America to play. He’s a versatile player who can play defense or forward, and depending on how much he wants to play in North America, he could be a bargain. Just don’t expect him to return to the Capitals… but seriously, best of luck to the guy.
