The Toronto Maple Leafs have named third-year defenseman, Luke Schenn, an alternate captain following the departure of long-time Leaf Tomas Kaberle.
Schenn, 21, has really stepped up his game this year for Toronto, and without a doubt has the leadership traits and work-ethic that will surely rub off well on fellow teammates.
With Kaberle gone, Schenn now sits second among Leafs defenseman in points with two goals, 11 assists and 13 points, while also leading all Leafs defenseman in plus/minus.
Many people have speculated that Schenn might get a letter since he came to the Leafs in his rookie season. Although he suffered somewhat of a sophomore slump last year, the young blue-liner has improved his play defensively, physically and offensively coming into his third NHL season.
