Having watched the Panthers lose 9 of their last 11 games, I was feeling quite discouraged. Each time I start to get excited about this team, something like this happens. Negativity from fans quickly spreads after each loss on the online forums and around the web. Not wanting to be one of those fans, I needed some encouragement and I needed it fast! It just happened that I had the opportunity to talk to Panther’s Ice Dancer, Meg Liz Miller.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Meg Liz Miller and I am from Sylvania, OH. I moved to Miami after graduating Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro with a Bachelors of Fine Arts: Graphic Design. In 2008 I was a Florida Marlins Mermaid, and now I am a Florida Panther Cheerleader! I work for VPX/Redline in Marketing doing Social Media, and Video Production. I also manage all female talent for photo shoots, events, calendars, print ads, and internet marketing. I am excited to be heading up the Redline Xtreme Race Girls team for the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. The team so far has been fantastic and we are releasing our 2011-2012 Redline Xtreme Race Girl calendar this month and the race will be viewed by 200 million fans worldwide! You will be excited to know that several of the Florida Panthers Ice Dancers are featured in the Redline Xtreme Calendar, but right now it is a secret and I can not tell you which ones. One of the cool things that I was involved in implementing was a link on our forum where girls can get detailed scientific information on diet, nutrition, supplementation, and exercise! (forum.vpxsports.com) I am honored to have won the Panthers Ice Dancers Facebook fan page contest! I could not have won without the support of each and every one of my 2,000+ fans. I want to thank all of you for all your dedicated support! I was surprised to find out that many hockey fans of other teams also supported me in this endeavor. This made me realize that the NHL fan base is one big family
Having never been an Ice Dancer myself (I know…shocking), I wondered just what it takes to be part of this hard working team.
Meg Liz, what is it like to be a Panther’s Ice Dancer?
Being a member of the 2010-2011 Panther’s Ice Dancers team is truly an honor! This honor does not come without hard work! We practice 3-4 times a week from 7-11pm, as well as participate in Florida Panthers Promotions and Ice Dancer appearances throughout the week. We have to memorize numerous dance routines and keep our body and appearance in perfect condition. This includes dieting, working out, and frequent trips to the nail and hair salon! I can’t emphasize enough how important nutrition and supplementation is to keep me fix, strong, lean and full of energy! I can not live without my ready to drink Protein Rush Shake!
Wow. That sounds like a lot of work. No wonder I never pursued this! I soon learned that Meg Liz has many talents – dancing, social media, graphic arts, nutrition, and being a motivational speaker. Meg Liz provides motivation to her fans through her website. Maybe that’s what this team needs…some kind of Herb Brooks, “Miracle,” motivational speech!
After my post, If I were head coach of the Panthers, I wondered how would Meg Liz motivate this team, if she was in charge.
As an aspiring motivational speaker, what advice would you give this team?
After Thursday’s loss, this makes the 6th home loss in a row. The Panthers tend to fall apart in their final period. This is not just a recent phenomena. The Panthers have struggled in the third period almost the entire season. I do not believe it is a lack of motivation, for a solution we have to think outside of the box and look to fix this issue another way. Therefore my recommendation is that they do what the world famous NY Yankees do and that is rely on Redline Xtreme Energy Drink. Redline Xtreme Energy Drink has proven to increase reaction time by 7.5 % a factor that is invaluable in increasing success. However, Redline Xtreme’s ability to improve mental focus by 13% and increase energy by 15% is going to be the key tool to make them strong when they are weak in the third period! Let me be crystal clear here – this is not some carbonated, sugary energy drink! The Redline Xtreme university study was done by sports nutrition researcher, Dr. J Hoffman.
At this point in the season, most hockey fans are focused on the Stanley Cup Playoffs and where their team stands in the race. For Panther’s fans, it’s been a game to game struggle. So, I asked Meg Liz her thoughts.
What do you think of the Panther’s season and chances of making the playoffs?
We are still alive in the playoff race! If we can reverse this third period curse, and turn a negative into a positive by the strategies I suggested in my previous response, I believe it is possible that the Panthers could make the Playoffs. It is important not to lose sight of the fact that the Florida Panthers have played excellent against some of the greatest teams in the league! They just need to work on better third period conditioning and add the magic drink to their protocol.
Meg Liz has sold me on her products. Just think how many more articles I could be writing with a magic drink! However, let’s shift back to the leadership of the team.
In his blueprint, Dale Tallon says he wants a team with “character.” Which Panthers player do you think has shown the most character and why?
All players have great character and I would hate to single out one player as having character and discrediting the rest of the team. I think it is important to keep this cliche in mind: There is no ‘I’ in Team! I personally have witnessed these professional athletes at numerous charity events, car washes, and Panthers promotions. For example, at the Florida Panthers Face-Off Luncheon each player made a huge difference in the lives of over 30 children faced with pediatric cancer. That is what I call character! I believe the entire team comes on the ice with this same unselfish character!
Well, I can see Meg Liz is not going to give me a hint as to who’s on the trading block. So, how does she keep from getting discouraged after the team consistently blows early leads only to go on and lose.
How do you stay motivated when the team is struggling?
The Ice Dancers and I love Redline Princess! It’s made to enhance mood and give you tons of positive energy! My girls and I drink it before every game and we can’t live without it! I also have to point out that while the game itself is of great importance, we as Ice Dancers can not allow ourselves to be effected by how the Florida Panthers perform. We have our own game to focus on, and that is nailing our dance routines and keeping the fans pumped and excited!
Well, Meg Liz and the other Ice Dancers do a good job of that! So, one last question before we get back to seeing how this season plays out.
What has been more challenging: cheer-leading for the Florida Marlins; or being a Panthers Ice Dancer?
Every role I take on has its challenges! Nothing in life comes easy and that is why life is so exciting! The greater the challenge to conquer the greater the reward! Cheering for the Marlins was difficult in that we had 80+ home games, meaning double the amount of routines to memorize. The routines were challenging but the excitement of having to nail a difficult routine in front of thousands of people at the Dolphins Stadium was unforgettably rewarding! Dancing for the Florida Panthers is not a task for the faint of heart, when you see us perform a kick line and jump split on the ice and enthusiastically cheer throughout the entire game at the chilly Bank Atlantic Center its easy to see how it requires a great deal of dedication, professionalism, and a whatever-it-takes attitude. Each experience will forever leave long lasting memories in my heart and it is surely an honor to be a part of both teams!
And it’s been an honor to chat with Meg Liz and get her thoughts on the Cat’s season. Win or lose, I know she’ll be out there cheering and doing her part in keeping fans excited about this team’s chances. With a very tough schedule coming up (Flyers, Red Wings, and Lightning), I’m glad that “team Tallon and Miller,” will be leading the way!
A big thank you to Meg Liz for taking the time to chat with me. Go Panthers!
