Rachel Llanes, Hayley Williams & Paige Harrington Sign in NWHL

Another trio of signings has been announced in advance of the NWHL’s inaugural season.

UMass Amherst’s Paige Harrington and Miami University’s Hayley Williams have signed deals with the Buffalo Beauts and Northeastern’s Rachel Llanes has signed a deal with the Boston Pride.

Speaking about Llanes at the NWHL website, Pride GM Hayley Moore said, “Llanes is a very high-energy, skilled player… We want to challenge our opponents with lethal speed. Llanes definitely fits that mold and will raise the bar for her teammates.”

She finished a four-year career with Northeastern in the 2012-13 season with 14 goals and 24 assists. The last two seasons she has played in the CWHL for the Boston Blades, scoring six goals and five assists through 22 games last year. The Blades and Llanes won the 2015 Clarkson Cup, though Llanes didn’t register a point in the postseason.

Williams finished last season with Miami University third in scoring with 27 goals and 26 assists. She was a 2013-14 ACHA Division I Player of the Year and a First Team All-American.

Harrington finished her career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst this spring, playing three years with UMASS and taking her freshman season at Penn State. She posted 10 goals and 16 assists through 28 games in her senior season. She was also named to the First Team All-Conference and First Team All-American last season.

This brings both squads a little closer to their full roster, which must be signed by August 17 for the inaugural season. The teams will play each other on October 11, the opening day of the inaugural season.
