Game Recap

The Jets controlled the play for the first half of the period with nothing to show for it, outshooting the Islanders 10-2 in the first 11 minutes, and went 0-for-1 on a power play that had plenty of chances.

The Islanders closed out the period with a 15-0 run in shots, including a shot on the power play from Palmieri, to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Nelson slid a nifty pass across the ice, which left a wide-open net for Palmieri to score his 20th of the season.

Nelson scored his 20th of the season at 1:33 of the second frame, capping off a give-and-go with Tsyplakov. Morrissey put the Jets on the board at 8:48 on the power play. He slapped a shot from the point that deflected off an Islanders’ defender enough to fool Sorokin.

Pulock restored the Islanders’ two-goal lead at 4:03 of the third with a slap shot from the point that deflected off of multiple Jets players before getting past Hellebuyck.

Ehlers cut the lead to 3-2 on a power-play goal at the side of the crease. The Jets went 2-for-3 on the power play, the Islanders went 1-for-2, and the shots were dead even at 29 a side.
