Crosby’s Power Play Goal Helps Penguins Complete Comeback in New Jersey

On Friday evening, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to Newark to face the New Jersey Devils. The Penguins were able to overcome an early deficit to sneak past the Devils with a 4-2 victory. Crosby’s game winner was his 32nd goal of the season and 624th of his career.

The Devils got off to a blazing fast start. Just 15 seconds in, Erik Haula found himself on a partial breakaway and roofed it to make it 1-0. Just six minutes later, Ondrej Palat redirected a Cody Glass shot in to double their lead. But the Penguins answered back as Evgeni Malkin scored to make it 2-1.

Just over a minute into the second, Valtteri Puustinen banked one in on the power play to knot it up at two. Both teams had chances, but the score stayed there heading into the third. The Penguins got another man advantage later on, and Sidney Crosby tapped in a great feed from Bryan Rust to give the Penguins a 3-2 lead.

Jake Allen came off for the extra attacker and Rust hit the empty net to seal it. The Penguins improve to 33-35-12; the Devils fall to 41-31-7.

The Penguins will return home to face the Boston Bruins on Sunday (3:30 PM EDT); the Devils will also play Sunday (1:00 PM EDT) as they take on the New York Islanders.
