Editorial Standards

At The Hockey Writers (THW) all of our writing, creative, and editorial teams are expected to adhere to the following journalistic principles so that our audiences have the most reliable, relevant and interesting content available. This applies across all of our THW-brand platforms—articles, videos, social media, podcasts, etc.

We are committed to providing accurate, transparent, engaging, and informative content with our audiences and will continuously update these policies in line with industry standards.

Our mission

THW’s mission is to provide interesting, informative, entertaining, and opinionated content covering the world of hockey. Our writing and editorial teams strive to create a wide range of content — from breaking news stories, to the latest rumours, to deep analytical reports, to straight-up opinion pieces – and to deliver it all in the most timely and accurate way possible.

Accuracy

THW is committed to providing accurate information, and our writers must always ensure the accuracy of their written content published on our website, to the best of their ability.

THW is transparent about where our information comes from. We make sources clear to our audience so they know where information comes from, and we strive to include a wide range of sources.

Our editors and writers are held to a high standard of accuracy and are responsible for ensuring that the information included in their content is correct at the time of publishing. If a correction must be made, we move as quickly as possible to fix it.

Plagiarism

THW has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. Those who do not follow this policy are removed from our platform.

If plagiarism is discovered, an immediate investigation is launched into the work in question as well as any other content the writer has published.

We consider complaints of plagiarism of the utmost importance. We investigate all complaints when received.

Artificial intelligence (AI)

At THW, we’re always looking for ways to improve our writing and editorial processes, and provide the best possible content to our readers. As part of that effort, we may use artificial intelligence (AI) to automate certain tasks and streamline our content production process. This can include using algorithms to assist with content curation, headline generation and drafting text. This allows our writers to focus on more creative, higher-impact work, and to provide content for those topics not covered by our writing teams.

While we believe AI can be a helpful tool in creating high-quality content, human editorial oversight and input are paramount. Our editors and writers work closely with AI tools to ensure that everything we publish meets our high standards for accuracy, relevance and quality. Any stories that include AI-generated elements follow a rigorous editing and fact-checking process and carry a disclaimer to maintain transparency.

At the same time, AI will never be a substitute for the creativity, knowledge and judgment of our writers and editors. You can always count on us for first-hand reporting, insider opinion pieces, and deep-dive analysis that can only come directly from our team of talented writers, based on real experiences and independent research — never from AI.

THW readers can reach our managing editors through this contact page. Messages are checked regularly and any information pertinent to any content is promptly addressed.
