Kraken’s 5-Goal 2nd Period Catapults Them to 6-1 Victory Over Oilers

The Seattle Kraken hosted the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, March 27. Although the Kraken have lost their last nine games against the Oilers, Seattle took the victory in this game 6-1.

With 48 seconds left in the first period, the Oilers struck first. Connor Brown hit the puck with what appeared to be a high stick. Vince Dunn went to grab the puck to stop play. Jeff Skinner grabbed the loose puck. He took the shot, and the puck found the back of the net. Seattle challenged for a high stick and after video review, it was determined there was a high stick; the goal was waved off. Both the Oilers and the Kraken took 12 shots on net, and the first period came to a close with no score.

Just 39 seconds into the second period, Mattias Janmark took a seat for hooking. On their second power play opportunity of the night, the Kraken scored on the extra-man advantage. Dunn caught the puck at the blue line to keep it in the Kraken’s offensive zone. He passed to Jared McCann near the center of the ice. McCann passed to Andre Burakovsky at the faceoff dot. Burakovsky took the shot, and Jaden Schwartz tipped it into the net to open the scoring for Seattle.

Two minutes later, Jake Walman had the puck at the boards in the Kraken’s offensive zone. He was dealt a heavy hit by Michael Eyssimont and lost his handle on the puck. Schwartz picked up the loose puck in the faceoff circle and with a shot, scored his second goal of the night.

Halfway into the second, Matty Beniers won the faceoff for the Kraken. He passed to Adam Larsson at the blue line. Larsson took a shot, and Jani Nyman was in front of the net. Nyman tipped the puck in to extend the Kraken’s lead to three goals.

Kaapo Kakko took a shot on the net that was blocked by Calvin Pickard. Kakko picked up the rebound and spotted Beniers to his left. He passed to him, who took the shot while Pickard was focusing on Kakko. Beniers extended the Kraken’s lead to 4-0.

Schwartz skated the puck into the Kraken’s offensive zone. He passed up to Jordan Eberle at the blue line. Eberle took the shot, and the puck bounced off the crossbar, into the net. The Oilers challenged for offside and won the challenge. The goal was waved off, but the Kraken still led 4-0.

While the Oilers attempted to get the puck out of the Kraken’s offensive zone, Ryker Evans caught it at the blue line. He passed to Burakovsky, who was in front of the net. Burakovsky took the shot and buried it into the back of the net.

Four minutes into the third period, the Oilers got on the board. Off the faceoff, the puck made its way to Walman at the blue line. He took a shot, which was blocked by Joey Daccord. There was a mad scramble in front of the net, but Zach Hyman picked it up. He took a shot, which was also blocked by Daccord. Hyman picked up his own rebound and scored on the second shot.

Four minutes after the Oilers recorded their first goal, Larsson took a shot on net. It was blocked by Pickard. Eyssimont picked up the rebound and found McCann. With a swing of his stick, he batted the puck into the net. Perhaps McCann was excited for opening day. With this goal, the Kraken took the victory 6-1.

The Kraken will host the Dallas Stars on Saturday, March 29. The Oilers will also play again on Saturday, when they host the Calgary Flames.
