Lightning Defeat Oilers 4-1 to Win Sixth Straight Game

The Tampa Bay Lightning scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1 and pick up their sixth straight win while sending the Oilers to their fourth straight loss.

Edmonton opened the scoring in the first period when Leon Draisaitl connected on a power-play goal. It was his sixth straight game with a goal and ninth straight with a point.

The Oilers’ lead lasted two minutes as Mikey Eyssimont took a feed from Gage Goncalves and flipped a shot past Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner to tie the game.

Brandon Hagel put the Lightning in the lead with a wraparound goal just 29 seconds into the second period. He now has collected an NHL-best 11 points since the Lightning started their winning streak on Feb 4.

Five minutes later, Victor Hedman gave the Lightning a two-goal lead on a 5-on-3 power play, courtesy of two Edmonton high-sticking penalties. It was the first time the Lightning converted on a two-man advantage this season.

Nick Paul scored seven minutes into the third period to extend the Lightning lead to 4-1 and has scored in four straight games.

Coming into the game, the Lightning had won five games in a row and earned a point in seven straight outings after beating the Seattle Kraken 4-1 on Sunday afternoon (Feb 23). They had held the NHL’s best home record since Jan. 7 at 8-1-1, owning a plus-10 goal differential in all three periods this season.
