It’s Game Day!
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators kick off their first-round series—and the fifth instalment of the Battle of Ontario—tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.
There’s a ton of hype around this matchup. For the Maple Leafs, this feels like their best shot at a real playoff run after winning the Atlantic. But the Senators won’t go quietly. They play a heavy game that can wear down Toronto’s top stars.

Ottawa has become a trendy sleeper pick to pull off an upset, which only adds to the tension already built into this rivalry.
It’s the Battle of Ontario—one of the best rivalries from the early 2000s—and it’s back in full force. This series is going to be a fun one.

Game 1 Prediction:
Toronto has a lot to prove this year. They finished first, drew a new opponent, and just had their best season in the last five years. I expect them to come out strong and show they’re not here to be bounced in the first round. As for the Senators, this is their first trip to the playoffs since 2017—and their first time with this core. That matters. Adjusting to playoff hockey as a group can take time, and that learning curve might show early.
Maple Leafs take Game 1 with a 5–2 win over Ottawa.
