NHL Rumors: Wright Wants Canucks, Fantilli Offer Sheet, Pettersson Buzz

In today’s NHL rumors rundown, while the Vancouver Canucks weigh an Elias Pettersson trade, might they be the preferred destination for Shane Wright? Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens are weighing the risks of signing a hot-and-cold free agent, and the Columbus Blue Jackets remain focused on locking up Adam Fantilli, despite the threat of an offer sheet.

Canucks Eye Shane Wright While Fielding Calls

The Vancouver Canucks are emerging as a potential landing spot for Seattle Kraken center Shane Wright, who is reportedly being shopped. According to Ben Kuzma of The Province, interest appears mutual, with Wright intrigued by Vancouver’s long-term outlook and the opportunity to grow with a rebuilding core.

However, acquiring the 22-year-old won’t be easy. Reports suggest the Kraken are seeking a significant return, having asked for either Zeev Buium or Tom Willander. The Canucks quickly shot that down.

Carlsson’s Agents Told Him To Wait for a Better Offer

At the same time, it is being rumored that Vancouver has been approached by the Anaheim Ducks about acquiring forward Frank Vatrano. That deal would likely require incentives from Anaheim, which is dealing with the fallout of matching Leo Carlsson’s $18 million offer sheet.

Carlsson’s agent, by the way, said four teams made offers, and the center was shocked by the size of Philadelphia’s front-loaded pitch. The Ducks wanted to sign Carlsson several times early in the season, but they told him to wait because they knew the marketplace would offer more.

Elias Pettersson Trade Talk Still Simmering

Trade speculation around Elias Pettersson continues to linger, though no deal appears imminent. The Canucks are believed to be open to moving the 27-year-old center, but several obstacles complicate matters. His declining production and hefty long-term contract have made teams cautious, turning him into more of a buy-low candidate than a blockbuster target.

There has been some reported interest from the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they’re also kicking tires on Jason Robertson. Pittsburgh just signed Jason’s brother Nick to a two-year extension.

Canadiens Aren’t Sure About Anthony Mantha

The Montreal Canadiens are still searching for a top-six winger, and Anthony Mantha has surfaced as a potential fit. Coming off a career-best season, the 31-year-old forward has drawn interest from multiple teams. However, his contract demands—reportedly long-term at $5–6 million annually (and over several seasons)—have made organizations hesitant.

Montreal, in particular, is wary of giving too much to a player who has been inconsistent. Their plan seems to be to wait to see if he’ll come down on his ask. While Mantha’s size and scoring ability could complement the Canadiens’ young core, some analysts believe his recent production was boosted by elite linemates, adding further caution.

A short-term deal could make sense for both sides. But unless Mantha lowers his asking price or term, the Canadiens may ultimately pass.

Blue Jackets Confident in Getting Fantilli Deal Done

The Columbus Blue Jackets remain focused on securing a new contract for rising star Adam Fantilli. General manager Don Waddell has expressed confidence that a deal will be completed, publicly declaring the team’s commitment to keeping the 22-year-old in the fold.

As the Ducks did with Carlsson, Columbus is reportedly prepared to match any offer sheet that could come Fantilli’s way, signaling just how important he is to their future. Negotiations are ongoing, and the organization appears optimistic that an agreement will be reached before outside teams get too involved.

Waddell also noted that the Blue Jackets are prioritizing their restricted free agents before making additional roster moves. With no major cap concerns expected, Fantilli—and the team’s other RFAs—will likely be signed without significant issues.
