Oilers’ Henrique Will Miss Game 2 Against Ducks With Injury

The Edmonton Oilers had a late third-period comeback that saw them pick up a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks to take a 1-0 lead in their first-round series. Unfortunately, one of their veteran players won’t be available for the second game.

Adam Henrique, who has been a staple in the Oilers’ bottom-six forward group, will be unavailable, with no update on how long he is expected to be out.

Henrique had left the game early after a collision with teammate Kasperi Kapanen, appearing to clutch his knee before heading to the dressing room.

Henrique only had 2:56 of ice time before he exited the game.

Oilers’ head coach Kris Knoblauch said, “It’s gonna be a big hole. We’ll miss (him). He’s been so good on our special teams. Obviously, we’re going to need other guys to step up if we are to lose him.”

Henrique, who is 36 years old, scored three goals and added 12 assists for 15 points through 65 games with the Oilers this season.

Throughout his career, Henrique has scored 13 goals and added 14 assists for 27 points through 65 career playoff games.

With Henrique out, the Oilers are expected to turn to rookie Joshua Samanski, who would be making his playoff debut.

Samanski, who is 24, scored two goals and added two assists for four points through 24 games this season. Before joining the Oilers, Samanski had 31 points through 45 games with the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League (AHL).
