The 28-year-old’s stay with the Penguins was short-lived. The 6-foot-7, 228-pound defender played only 10 games with Pittsburgh after being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks just one month ago as part of the Marcus Pettersson trade. While in the black and yellow, Desharnais scored no points and averaged 14 minutes and 24 seconds per game.

Desharnais has struggled to find his rhythm in his first season after leaving the Edmonton Oilers.  This season, he has played in 44 games split between Vancouver and Pittsburgh, totaling three assists, 68 blocked shots, and 73 hits while averaging 15:37 per game. The Laval, Quebec native is in the first season of a two-year, $4 million contract. He was a seventh-round selection of the Oilers back in the 2016 NHL Draft. He has tallied one goal and 18 assists over 158 career games with the Oilers, Canucks and Penguins. He has three assists over 28 career playoff games, all with the Oilers.
