On Wednesday, Jan. 28, the Seattle Torrent took on the Ottawa Charge for their second matchup of the 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season. The first period ended with no change in score, but the Torrent got on the board early in the second thanks to a power-play goal.
The Charge tied the game just two minutes into the final frame, but it was the Torrent who took the lead in the middle of the third period. The Charge went on a tear in the final six minutes, scoring three unanswered goals to give Ottawa a 4-2 home ice win.
Knight Records Her Name in the History Book
Just a minute and nine seconds into the second period, Peyton Hemp received a five-minute major for an illegal check to the head and a ten-minute misconduct. Late in the five-on-three chance, Hannah Bilka took a shot from right next to the net, but Gwyneth Philips made the save. The Charge scrambled to collect the rebound, but it kicked out to Jessie Eldridge, who took a shot of her own. The shot bounced off Rory Guilday in front of the net, and Hilary Knight scrambled to pick up the puck. With Philips out of the crease, she scored on the Torrent’s third chance on this play.

With this goal, Knight became the sixth PWHL player to record 50 career points. This was her third goal of the season and her 10th point in just 14 games. Knight has been an incredible force in the PWHL, playing her first two seasons in Boston, where she recorded 40 points.
Knight is getting ready to play in her fifth and final Olympic Games, but don’t get it twisted; she has not yet said that she is done playing hockey. Hopefully, she has a few more seasons in her with the Torrent.
Also of note, Knight was not the only player to record her 50th point, as Brianne Jenner notched hers with an assist on Rebecca Leslie’s first goal. Knight is in great company as the list of PWHL players to record 50 points continues to grow.
Eldridge Gave the Torrent Their Lead Back
In the middle of the third period, Danielle Serdachny gained control of the puck in the neutral zone and skated it into the Torrent’s zone. She saw Eldridge skating up and sent a pass to her. She took a shot and gave the Torrent their lead back.

Eldridge has also been on a tear this season, as she recorded her third multipoint game. She has also scored a goal in her last three games. Eldridge currently has 10 points this season via five goals and five assists. While Julia Gosling is still in first place with 12 points, Eldridge and Knight are catching up to her as they both have 10 points.
Eldridge has been an important part of the top line alongside Gosling and Serdachny. Her consistent playmaking and the number of points she currently has prove just how important she is to this team.
Unnecessary Penalties Kept Torrent Out of the Game
Just four minutes after Eldridge gained the lead, the Charge scored to tie the game again. With less than a minute left in the game, Megan Carter took a two-minute minor for cross-checking. 29 seconds later, the Charge gained the lead with a power-play goal. Ottawa scored just 13 seconds later to ensure their victory.
On the penalty kill, the Torrent are currently in seventh place with a success rate of 78.6%. Tensions ran high in this game, and it ultimately cost Seattle the win. The Torrent will need to try to correct their penalty kill in the second half of the season if they want to win more games.
PWHL Heads on Olympic Break
The PWHL is currently on its Olympic break as 61 athletes prepare to head to Milan, Italy, to represent their home countries.
The Torrent will be back in action on Friday, Feb 27, when they host the Ottawa Charge.
